One gardener's observations, discoveries and random thoughts whilst simultaneously worshipping and dallying in a Cape Cod garden. "A garden," said Ralph Waldo Emerson, "is like those pernicious machineries which catch a man's coatskirt or his hand, and draw in his arm, his leg and his whole body to irresistable destruction."

Welcome October!

I’ve never grown lantana before, and while this plant got off to a slow start in an ill-fated window box this summer, the plant has grown well in sunny September…and began blooming again once October arrived. I just love the variety of color in each flower head. I’ll try to keep this one alive inside this winter, and see what its capable of in Year Two.

The window box petunias also decided to welcome October with a few more blossoms.

October also brought the first sign of bloom from this new Helianthus, an addition to the late season show.
