It’s one of those classically beautiful summer days.
Every now and then, a katydid starts whirring and whips itself up into a frenzy. There’s an occasional chirping from the family of sparrows who’ve set up residency in a two story (on their scale – it’s birdhouse sized, but a double-decker) birdhouse out in the yard. There’s the steady rushing hum of traffic on the highway, and past our house, still audible over the sound of our fans. For a few minutes anyway, there are no sirens on Route 6, and we assume that everyone is happily and safely engaged at the beach or wherever.
We have warm sunshine, a smidge of a breeze to keep the trees swaying slightly and there are treasures on the deck garden. I know I’ve shown you the zinnia before. It’s still just that one blooming so far, but they do change as they continue to unfurl and I’m just tickled to watch those changes. I’m a big fan of all those little yellow flowers ringing the center.
Actually, it’s a bit hot. 80 degrees (F) is the temperature and I venture to say its a bit warmer here in the Nest, where we are on the second floor and have only fans to keep the air stirring. I’m not usually home in this center part of the day, but its the first day of a week’s much-anticipated vacation.
I’ll be leaving Mister Purrypants and the Deck Garden in the care of the Downstairses (and in the case of the garden, also Mother Nature, who is forecast to supply a little supplemental watering here and there throughout the week – fingers crossed), and heading off to Provincetown for the week, where I’ll be reveling in a great convergence of friends and family who’re all coming to town over the course of the next week or so.
What fun we will have.
Anyway, you aren’t likely to see many posts from me here at the MG, since I’ll be largely, as they say, Off The Grid. But you know I’ll be taking plenty of pictures and no doubt a few will end up here once I’m back home again.
Meanwhile, what are you doing surfing the Internet? It’s Summertime! Get out there into the world and have some adventure of your own! :)
If you’ll excuse me, I have a ferry to meet!
